Child abuse only contributes “a handful of cases” to the high rates of STIs in our Indigenous communities.

Some of the education programs deployed haven’t been the most successful either.

In the Northern Territory most sexually transmitted diseases occurred in the 16-28 age group, with only a small number under 13 and usually as a result of sexual abuse.

There is a high correlation with alcohol abuse and STI’s in younger people

Inaccurate reports have been made conflating high STI rates to child sexual abuse adding shame and stigma to problems extant in communities.
