A team of scientists from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology has developed a new wireless implant that reconnects the communication pathways between the legs and brain of people with severe spinal cord injuries, including paraplegia, to help them walk again.
Three male participants had electrodes surgically implanted into the back of their spinal cords, which is connected to an electrical pulse generator.
It has been hailed as a major step forward but one expert warns that this new treatment is not a ‘miracle cure.’
