A stark warning today from an indigenous legal professional that people should not forget the circumstances that gave rise to the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody… Outrage has followed quickly on the heels of revelations that an 11-year old boy from Normanton in North Queensland was locked in a police cage and transported 500-odd km to appear in a Mt Isa Court – after he was caught spraying graffiti on the road. Ian Pilgrim from Mt Isa Aboriginal legal Service, the Chair of the Secretariat for National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care agencies, Muriel Cadd, and Frank Guivarra, Chair of the National Aboriginal and Islander Legal Service Secretariat have all expressed their dismay.
