‘Seriously Deficient’ – Disability vaccinations
A draft report released by the disability royal commission has found the state’s approach to be ‘seriously deficient’ when it comes to vaccinating people with disabilities. The report says that it would be ‘unconscionable’ if states were to lift lockdowns before all Australians with disabilities have the chance to be fully vaccinated.
As of September 26, the royal commission found 66% of NDIS participants living in shared accommodation had received both vaccinations, while only 57.3% of NDIS screen workers had been fully vaccinated.
Senior Manager of Policy at People with Disability Australia, Giancarlo de Vera, believes opening up before those with disabilities have a chance to be fully vaccinated, will result in forced self-isolation and more deaths.
