Air pollution ranks as the Australian public’s number one environmental concern. But according to a new report, Australia’s air quality has actually improved in the past decade. The “State of the Air” report reveals that the levels of some pollutants, such as lead and sulpher dioxide, have fallen since 1996. But, ozone and air particles levels are still a cause for concern. Both of these pollutants significantly affect our respiratory system and aggravate pre-existing conditions such as asthma. Kate Hairsine spoke to Paul Kesby, Director for Air Quality at the Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Heritage, about the State of the Air report.
