Technology may be ruling the way we communicate these days and sometimes it’s hard to believe things are still done via snail mail. In the Indigenous community of Stanley Village, on the outskirts of Moree in New South Wales, they are embracing this old system with open arms. After waiting several years residents are celebrating their first mail delivery in many many years. Postal services to remote indigenous communities in this country are either non existent or difficult for residents to access and many are missing out on opportunities and feel as if they have been forgotten. With the help of the Public Industry Advocacy Centre, Stanley Village residents reminded Australia Post of their Australia-wide community service obligations and want to see improvements to Australia Post services in remote Indigenous communities.
