‘Standing up’ for important Aboriginal rockart

Late last month, Federal Environment and Heritage Minister Malcolm Turnball rejected an application by the Aboriginal custodians of WA’s Burrup Peninsula to protect world heritage rock art from a Woodside Pluto Gas Project. Stephen Benett from Friends of Australian Rock Art says the several pieces of rock art are already being moved. He says locals are concerned the work will be destroyed, and are particularly upset because they believe there are economically viable sites close by. Mr Bennett spoke with Petria Smith about the decision and what’s being planned to still stop the project.
