State legislation comes into effect today in South Australia after a three year ordeal into a ban of single-use plastics. The new legislation is the first of its kind in Australia, and will prohibit the use of plastics for straws and cutlery. It is also expected that polystyrene cups, bowls and plates will be added to the banned list. Nathan Nikolic spoke to Greens MP Mark Parnell about how the transition away from single use plastics would be beneficial for the environment.
