‘Souls over polls’: shifting the focus on asylum seekers

Asylum seekers are dominating the agenda this week, which is apt given this week is Refugee Week. Yesterday human rights lawyer George Newhouse launched a case against the Australian government for their role in a 2010 Christmas Island boat accident that killed 50 asylum seekers. And today, the Labor caucus voted on whether or not to change their offshore processing policy. Although the motion was rejected, experts say this shows the tide is turning when it comes to offshore processing.
