Parliament is today debating changes to the migration act that could bring back offshore processing, after the government’s expert panel recommended that Nauru and Manus Island be used as processing centres again. A small number of refugee advocates have emerged to defend the expert panel’s recommendation to use Nauru and Manus Island. They say that this if all the panel’s recommendations are adopted, there will be significant benefits for refugees in the region.
