While politicians of all political persuasions trading blows about climate change, one group says the introduction of a simple but effective home gadget could help combat one of the greatest contributors of global warming. According to the Stern report, power generation accounts for 24% of all green house gases. But around the world, power usage has increased dramatically since 1990 when the world first became aware of the green house problem. In Australia this is partially due to an increase in the number of houses fitted out with air-conditioning units. Well a group of architects is calling for state and federal governments to implement solar-powered air con units. David Lawrence from the Archicentre, an advisory service of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, outlined to The Wire why the increasing prevelance of ai cons was such a problem.
