New research released by the Smith Family has found that a person’s family background is still a major factor in determining the wages that they’ll earn and whether or not they’ll go to university. But some researchers are querying the federal government’s focus on higher education in trying to break down inherited disadvantage. They say there are better ways to break the cycle. However we go about it, The Smith Family says that the land of the fair go needs to get serious about providing equal opportunities for all of its citizens, regardless of the social circumstances they grow up in.
