Practitioners, youth workers and young people have been attending a forum in Brisbane to share their experiences in providing support for children, young people and families in crisis. One of the initiatives highlighted at the Showcase is the Sistagirls program, providing positive role models for young Aboriginal women. Sistagirls mentor Shinnane Law, says the project grew from community consultations, and helps Indigenous women in Cherbourg, Murgon and Hervey Bay dealing with a range of issues. Program participant Nikita says taking part in workshops and meeting role models is helping them to develop greater confidence.
