Angela Merkel has warned the UK not to expect German support in the EU if it continues to push the envelope over David Cameron’s plans to tighten up UK immigration laws. Whilst this plays well at home, it contravenes one of the pillars of the EU.

But for David Cameron, the UK Independent Party is capturing hearts and minds with their anti-immigration rhetoric. And a stoush with the Germans may be just what he needs approaching next years’ elections.
