The Mayor of Palmerston, a city to the south east of Darwin, has suggested Indigenous homeless people sleeping rough on his city’s streets should be relocated to the Darwin Showgrounds and provided with medical and other services. Ilana Eldridge, CEO of Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation, says these are internally displaced refugees, and the Mayor’s suggestion is an inappropriate solution to the problem.
