The NSW Government has this week introduced legislation extending the operation of covert search warrants under the Terrorism (Police Powers) Act. The NSW Attorney General John Hatzistergos says the threat of a terrorist attack is still real and the tough measure need to stay in place. Others argue that it’s time to reform counter-terrorism legislation rather than extend it. One such person is Tim Vines, Director of Civil Liberties Australia. Justin Ellis asked Tim Vines what the extension of this law means for civil liberties in Australia.
