A $89 billion naval ship building package will be signed off by Tony Abbott this week as the Prime Ministers Cabinet meet in Adelaide. $39 billion will go into the construction of new frigates and patrol boats in South Australia with the remaining $50 billion to be spent on submarines, however the details are still foggy. Many are concerned that Abbott’s emphasis on ‘on-the-water’ boats is shrouding his intention to outsource building submarines to countries offering a tender and therefore exporting jobs overseas.
