Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull has surprised some by calling for tougher cuts to carbon emissions and he wants a Senate Enquiry to look into the matter. With the government set to release it’s draft legislation on carbon trading – called the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, or CPRS – within the next few weeks, it’s not surprising that Minister for Climate Change, Penny Wong, has dismissed the oppositions claims. She says you can’t reduce carbon emissions without transforming the economy. Catherine Zengerer asks Director of the Australia Institute, Richard Dennis, whether Penny Wong is right.
