Sexual harassment in WA’s mining sector still exists
Researchers from the Centre for Transformative Work at Curtin University surveyed more than 2,500 workers and conducted in-depth interviews with 60 individuals to gain insights into their experiences.
The report concluded that 5-41 per cent of women mining workers reported experiencing behaviours of sexist and sexual hostility sometimes, often or very often within the past 12 months, while 3-11 per cent of men experienced the same.
As well as individuals identifying as LGBTQI+ are more vulnerable and are at a higher risk of bullying and sexual harassment.
The reports release is apart of the Western Australian Government’s establishment of the Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) program in December 2021.
