This year marks 200 years since Britain abolished slavery, yet about 1000 women are trafficked to Australia and sold into sex slavery each year. The release of the Australian film ‘The Jammed’ has opened many people’s eyes to the reality of sex slavery and at this week’s APEC forum Australian and international union bodies will be lobbying world leaders to take real action against the trade. The last time the Federal Government responded strongly to the issue was back in 2004, when it introduced a $20 million package to combat sex trafficking. But three years on, experts say victims are still losing out.
