HIV, gonorrhea and syphylis are on the rise according to figures released today at a national sexual health conference. HIV notifications are up by 31%, the others 27%. Professor John Kaldor from the National centre for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research says the figures are a concern and show the need for more public education. Director of the SA Aids Council Kate Hartwig says the lack of public messages and the new drugs mean many people are taking risks.
