Serbia’s history coming back to haunt it
The European Union is well on its way to expand on its 27 member countries – with its Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn announcing this week that the Balkan countries, including Serbia, are on track to fulfil all the conditions required for them to join. Mr Rehn says Serbia is cooperating with the UN war crimes tribunal…but still needs to go one last step by helping to arrest Bosnian Serb wartime leaders like Ratko Mladic before it can formally sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreements next year. But Human Rights Watch says the EU shouldn’t allow Serbia to sign the Agreements and by doing so, it’s abandoning the genocide victims and compromising justice.
