The future of university spending is up for debate today, as cross-benchers look set to vote against uncapping university fees. Education Minister Christopher Pyne has also backed down on a threat to cut $150 million in science research funding from the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, or NCRIS. Critics say the two should never have been linked in the first place.
