Senate pushes nuclear waste toward Northern Territory

The wheels are in motion for a Nuclear Waste storage facility to be constructed at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory after the National Radioactive Waste Management Bill was passed in the Senate yesterday.

Despite opposition from the Northern Territory Government and contention over traditional ownership, Muckaty Station, near Tennant Creek remains the only nominated site for a National Nuclear Waste storage facility. But the local aren’t happy.
