Self-immolations signal a shift in Tibetan protest movement

In the past week, three more Tibetans set themselves on fire to protest the Chinese government’s repressive rule in the Tibetan region.

Tibetans have practiced peaceful resistance for decades, and their exiled leader the Dalai Lama opposes any form of self-harm.Most of the self-immolators are young men, and experts say this might signal that a new generation of protestors is willing to push the limits of Tibetan non-violence.
