When it comes to maintaining good health and well being in Indigenous communities, it’s well-known that having a strong connection to culture and country can play a major part – and this is no different for the Indigenous peoples of Alaska. Jessica Black is a Gwich’in Athabascan woman and a speaker at today’s Indigenous Allied Health Australia National Conference held in Adelaide. She says the ability to self-govern is not only crucial to her people’s well being, but one that is increasingly becoming more difficult.
