Seeking asylum alone
Every year thousands of children are placed in the hands of strangers and people smugglers and sent off to seek asylum in foreign and often unfriendly lands. And according to an author of a new report into this group of refugees, their numbers are growing. Sydney University’s Associate Professor Mary Crock has just released a report into this often overlooked group, entitled Seeking asylum alone. The report comes as another immigration controversial bill is set to be debate in parliament this week, which if passed will see all unauthorized boat arrivals processed in offshore centres like Nauru. Associate Professor Mary Crock says these laws will have a devastating impact on children coming to Australia shores alone to seek asylum.
