Yesterday, Attorney General Mark Dreyfus announced reforms to the secrecy legislation that aims to harmonise the vast array of laws in regards to the protection of information. Stephen Hill asks Kieran Pender senior lawyer of the Human Rights Law Centre whether the changes provide an adequate balance between transparency and protection of government information.

Pender suggests the changes to secrecy law do not go far enough in winding back the excessive penalties and the threshold at which individuals who disclose information can be prosecuted.
