The average age at which Australians first have sex is 16 – and it isn’t always safe sex. in fact, Australia has the third highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the developed world and sexualy transmitted infections are alsoon the rise. The National Centre for HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research has found that the rate of chlamydia infection more than doubled between 2000 and 2004 – the largest increases were amongst women aged 15 to 29. Shevonne Hunt talked to some 14-year-olds about sex ed.
