Scammers stole $ 2.8 million last year from taxpayers in Australia

Scammers posing as officers from the Australian government managed to trick taxpayers into handing over $ 2.8 million last year. By making fake phone calls, members of these organizations often demand payment of several thousand dollars claiming outstanding tax debts in the name of the Tax Office. Many follow patterns to intimidate their victims: like using crude language and making threats of arrest, jail or deportation in case of non-payment.
