In some parts of the Northern Territory, youth suicide rates are the highest in the developed world. That’s what Northern Territory Children’s Commissioner Howard Bath told the ABC’s 7.30 program last night.

An inquiry into the Northern Territory’s suicide rate is currently under way, and the Federal Government is planning to launch a six million dollar National Indigenous Suicide Prevention Strategy. Alison Anderson, Northern Territory Member for Macdonnell, has lost two nephews to suicide. She told The Wire that communities aren’t getting much help, they just have to cope with the tragedies.
