The Victorian Labor Party has put same-sex adoption back on the political agenda by including it in their platform for this year’s election. If enacted, the change would bring Victoria in line with New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. Currently, gay couples in Victoria can be foster parents or guardians, but have no right to adopt a child as a couple even if that child has been in their care for years.
