The recent flooding of Lake Eyre has seen the local yacht club eager to set sail, but the lake’s native title claimants have refused them access because of its spiritual significance. Lake Eyre Yacht Club commodore Bob Backway says he plans to defy the Arabunna people and sail later this week, despite risking heavy fines. The Wire’s Tom Angley spoke to lawyer Stephen Kenny earlier today about the media’s handling of the issue, and why the Arabunna people’s wishes should be respected.
