Prisoner welfare in South Australia hasn’t always been front of policy when it comes to dealing with issues of crime and justice. Kevin Foley, when in the position of acting premier, said “rack ’em, pack ’em and stack ’em if that’s what it takes to keep our streets safe”. And just last month overcrowding in prisons caused riots in the Port Augusta prison. Now the Attorney General is proposing progressive legislation for minor offenders, not only for South Australia, but for the rest of the country as well.
