Rudd government amends NT Intervention legislation – but how effective are their changes?

Responding to pressure from Indigenous and human rights groups the Rudd government has passed legislation that amends some asptects of the Northern territory intervention. The Emergency Response Consolidation Bill addresses in particular the contentious issue of the permit system on Aboriginal lands and access to pornographic material. Opposition Indigenous Affairs Spokesperson, Tony Abbott, has said he will oppose the bill. Catherine Zengerer spoke to Co-ordinator for the National Aboriginal Alliance, Les Malezei, and asked him how he felt about the changes.
