Kevin Rudd has been left out of new prime minister Julia Gillard’s cabinet reshuffle this afternoon, after he was replaced last week in a Labor leadership coup. She’s said he would be welcomed back as a frontbencher if Labor is re-elected at the election later this year. He plans to take a break but will be standing for re-election in his Brisbane seat. I spoke to David Burchell, a senior lecturer in Australian politics at the University of Western Sydney, about what the cabinet reshuffle means.
