Rudd dumps Gillard’s UN Security Council agenda

Australia has taken over as president of the UN Security Council allowing it to influence this month’s agenda. Since Kevin Rudd took back the Prime Ministership, he threw out Julia Gillard’s decision to make ‘women in warzones’ the focal point of the discussions. Instead, Mr Rudd has chosen to turn the Security Council’s attention to small arms in fragile states.

Julie McKay, the Executive Director of UN Women Australia, says it’s very hard for the same people who cause and create conflict to solve it, and that’s why we need the new voices of women to sit at the table and change how the world handles conflict.
