Parry Agius is CEO of the South Australian Native Title Services Ltd. He welcomes the idea of a federal mining tax which could possibly provide extra money for native title holders but wouldn’t want it to completely replace the current system. He says individual claimants should still be able to negotiate deals with mining companies as well but that they should put some of the money they get into a general fund for all landholders to end the current pot luck nature of mining royalties which advantage one community over its neighbours and rural communities over urban.
