Traditional owners in the Kimberly town of Broome are on a quest to revive the local Yawuru language.

Past assimilation policies left the dialect struggling to survive, as Aboriginal people nation-wide were discouraged to speak and teach Indigenous languages to their children. Now, the Yawuru language is being celebrated in Broome, with a successful language teaching program in schools, and bilingual signs being erected across the town. The program has seen positive results, with the Broome community benefiting from a deeper understanding and connection to culture.
