Report puts spotlight on world Homophobia
In Malawi last week, a gay couple was sentenced to 14 years jail time each, after being convicted of sodomy and indecency charges. Here in Australia, a complaint is being lodged with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission after Jason Akermanis said gay AFL players should stay in the closet. And last night New South Wales Transport Minister David Campbell resigned just before Channel 7 aired footage of the Minister using a government car to drive to and from a gay sex club in Sydney. These are not isolated cases of Homophobia. According to a global report on state sponsored homophobia, Homosexual men and women can face fines, imprisonment or even the death penalty in 76 countries. Natalie Muller spoke with Ben Cooper from the lobby group Community Action Against Homophobia.
