The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) is urging the Federal Government to take action against elder abuse, releasing their final report on Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The report calls on the Council of Australian Governments to establish a national policy framework by harmonising inconsistent rules and regulations across the states and territories.
The commission hopes to introduce a national register of enduring powers of attorney to eliminate any confusion that could allow people to make decisions on an elderly person’s behalf without the legal right to do so.
