Report: Community-supported grog restrictions work but dry zones don’t

The Federal Indigenous Minister, Mal Brough today announced he won’t send in extra police to enforce Alice Springs’ dry zone rules, despite calls by locals for him to do so, because they say there’s still high levels of drinking taking place. Meantime the findings from a 2-year study into alcohol restrictions in Indigenous communities were released today – and they concluded that imposed restrictions by authorities such as those in Alice Springs – aren’t as effective as those which are supported by local communities.
