Figures released last week reveal that more than one million households suffer housing and rental stress. And with yet another hike in interest rates yesterday to 7.25 per cent its plain to see what there is to stress about. The Rudd Government has responded to the renting crisis by doubling the tax incentives for investors to lower their rent rates. But is the right answer and is it enough to tackle the pressing problem. The Wire’s Alice Monfries asks Shelter SA Executive Director Gary Wilson just how we reaching this crisis and the way forward in fixing it.
