It was with a sense of deja vu that Australians watched footage of Indonesian abattoir workers abusing what was possibly Australian cattle. After the public backlash to live exports last year, the federal Government tried to put a stop to animal cruelty by bringing in the Export Supply Chain Assurance system, or ESCA, which was meant to regulate the Indonesian abattoir industry through a series of sanctions. However, if the latest footage revealed last night by Animals Australia is right, it seems nothing has changed.Image thanks to ABC news.
