Remote Indigenous Communities At Risk Of Being Stranded Amidst Coronavirus Fears
The Northern Territory Health Department has implemented a Remote Communities Plan with the recommendation of government officials limiting “non-essential” visits to regional areas across the state.
Indigenous communities are at high risk of being impacted by an outbreak due to high rates of chronic disease and overcrowded housing situations.
Although the plan is intended to be a preventative measure, with its many challenges, its efficiency is yet to be analysed. Currently, no travel ban has been imposed on the general public travelling regionally, but visitors that have recently returned from high- risk countries have been recommended to stay away.
