It’s 45 years since indigenous stockmen and their families, led by Vincent Lingiari, walked off wave Hill station in protest over wages and conditions. The defiant gesture led to Australia wide support for land rights. This weekend Kalkyringie is the venue for a major event to mark the anniversary. Organiser Brenda Croft says that while it will be a fun event its also a reminder about how little things have changed for indigenous people.
