Bobbi Sykes, who died on Sunday, was a lifelong champion of Indigenous rights. She was a glamorous and outspoken figure in the heady days of Aboriginal activism in the sixties, during the Freedom Ride and the founding of the Tent Embassy She went on to become an author and a poet. Aboriginal academic and activist Gracelyn Smallwood grew up in Townsville around the same time as Bobbi Sykes. She spoke about Bobbi and her legacy.
