Tony Kevin, an advocate for asylum seeker safety at sea, was at the inquest into the June 2012 sinking of a boat carrying 212 asylum seekers. 94 people aboard the boat drowned.

Mr Kevin says a WA police officer was given half an hour to scan an internal customs and border protection report before giving evidence despite completing a yearlong investigation into the deaths. It has also emerged that Austrlian Maritime Safety Officers claimed the distress calls received from the vessel were deemed by AMSA not to be genuine. The Coroner later found this was not the case and found the people on board were in genuine distress.
