The Morrison Government has refused to allow refugees on Temporary Protection Visas to apply for permanent citizenship. On Monday, protesters gathered outside the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to call for the government to allow for increased rights.
Without permanent residency, refugees on Temporary Protection Visas have restricted access to travel, study and welfare. Along with these limitations, the refugees are commonly torn away from their families and without the ability to apply for their asylum whilst they’re stuck in war torn countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
Julia Andre reports on the issue.
