The alleged return of Sri Lankan asylum seekers to the country they are fleeing was today condemned by Green senator Christine Milne and Opposition spokesperson Richard Marles. Commentator and former diplomat Tony Kevin says the turning around of the 153 boat arrivals is ‘crossing the line’ in terms of Australia’s human rights responsibilities. He hopes the entry of Clive Palmer into the Senate could be an impetus for political backlash to the Government’s current policies.
